Calorie Counter

Losing weight and dieting can be a very complicated process if you make it that way. For years people have been saying that the caloric intake of person takes in daily is what really matters when someone is trying to lose weight. However, over the past decade or so many doctors have been coming up with newfangled approaches to losing weight. There are low-fat diets, low carb diets, food combination diets and a number of other different fad diets on the market today. The truth of the matter is calories are still what count. Every person needs a specific amount of calories in order to survive and maintain his/her current weight. If you’re trying to lose weight it would be a very good idea to purchase a calorie counter containing a wealth of information on a wide variety of foods. Your calorie counter will act as a guide anytime you go to put something in your mouth. This will help you to understand exactly how many calories you are eating each day.

The best way to begin changing your eating habits is to start a food journal. Document everything you eat for a period of about 30 days, using your calorie counter to add up the total number of calories you have eaten and for each day. At the end of the 30 day period at the total number of calories you have eaten for the entire month and then divide that number by 30. The total you get will be the average amount of calories you eat on a daily basis. Using your calorie counter in this way will help you to understand whether or not you are staying within the recommended guidelines of caloric intake for your height and weight. If you are a 40-year-old woman who exercises about three times per week and weighing approximately 180 pounds with a height of 5’5 then you would need to eat about 2050 cal every day in order to maintain that weight. Of course if you fit this description then your BMI is probably rather high and it would more than likely do you some good to lose some weight. For moderate fat loss he would want to minimize your caloric intake to about 1630. If you are looking to lose fat at a quicker pace than you would want to bring those calories down to about 1400 per day.

You can purchase a calorie counter in the checkout line of your local grocery store or at just about any bookstore. There are also websites which offer a free calorie counter but it may be better to have one that you can carry around with you.
